Ahhh… lovely autumn day in denver, spent mostly inside, but finally got to chase a few foxes this evening. Now, listening to the bands at Old Curtis and remembering the nights i used to spend at the too-loud places. I am thinking more about planning my next bike tour, a mini-tour really, in Arizona this January. I have a little vacation time, but am still paying off my credit card from this summer’s overspending. How will i afford to take time off?  Yet i feel i must; it is difficult even to stay in tonight- the only thing that keeps me here is that i know it would take me more than an hour to pack and get out of here, and it’s already 10:45. At night.  So go i will, and the bill will rise again, but what can i do? I won’t sit here and grow old with my tour bike parked behind me in my living room. I wish i were a traveling gypsy, with a way to make money wherever i go, and not burdened with all the objects i am currently surrounded with and feel so attached to, attached and yet somewhat repulsed by. I’m still confused about the “big tour” that turned out not-so-big after all. I bought things i didn’t even end up bringing with me, had to scrounge a few i forgot, got too many hotel rooms due to crazy rains- sometimes i got rained on three times in the same day!- rain that would often come as i was finishing the last ten miles or so, hail that came twice in  places with no camping,  rainrainrain. I love riding in the rain and feel lucky that i only had a few really hot days of riding this sumer, but it is no fun to set up camp in a downpour. So… i spent too much money,
